This morning
Dr Malik appeared on “This Morning” with one of his patients. This lady had had migraine from her early teens and had taken part in the MIST Trial, looking at hole in the heart closure. She has an amazing result from the treatment, with a complete end to her headaches. Dr Malik demonstrated the procedure in the studio, much to the delight of Fern Brittain and Phillip Schofield.
Although this treatment is still experimental in the treatment of migraine, Dr Malik would be happy to discuss this with you.

BBC News 24
Dr Malik appeared on “News 24” following the publication of the MIST Trial looking at hole in the heart closure in the treatment of Migraine. He discussed the results of the study and the indications for PFO (hole in the heart) closure. He demonstrated the procedure in the studio on the presenters’ hands.
Dr Malik has been involved in several landmark trials of PFO closure.

A patient with very severe carotid artery disease as well as coronary heart disease required complicated treatment. To reduce the risk of stroke during major heart surgery, he underwent carotid artery stenting to open up the blood supply to the brain. The patient shared his feelings and medical findings with the “me and my operation” readers. Dr Malik, who had performed the carotid artery stenting and was his cardiologist, discussed when stenting was a better option than open carotid surgery.
Dr Malik has been involved in several landmark studies of Carotid Artery Stenting (CAS).

Sky News
The untimely death of Michael Jackson lead to a storm of media coverage. As the story unfolded, it became clear that Mr Jackson had been on several prescription medication. His in house doctor may have administered some of these. Dr Malik was asked by “Sky News” to comment on the emerging findings live on TV. Dr Maliks comments on the cause of death being related to possible drug overdose proved to be correct.

BMJ Masterclass
Dr Malik is one of the most popular lecturers in training courses for both GPs and hospital doctors. He will be chairing cardiology masterclasses in 2010, and teaching on general updates for other doctors. The BMJ training courses are now a very popular way of keeping up to date with medical advances. In addition. Dr Malik has done podcasts and webcasts.

At home
Dr Mayet, Professor Peters and Dr Malik were invited to contribute to the January 2010 edition of the premier lifestyle magazine “at home”. The particular edition At Home “choosing your consultant” gave us the opportunity to comment on the case for screening in the prevention of heart disease whilst looking forward to new the new techniques which will be available in the battle against heart disease.
