Clinical Expertise

Prof Choudhury’s clinical expertise is in the diagnosis and management of chest pain, shortness of breath, and hypercholesterolemia. He has a particular interest the management of cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes and in the management of high cholesterol using statins and alternatives. He is an interventional cardiologist who undertakes coronary angioplasty and stent procedures.

He seeks to help patients understand their diagnoses and treatment options in order to play their full part in planning, decision making and rehabilitation.

Prof Choudhury studied undergraduate medicine at the University of Oxford. His medical specialist training was in London, (Hammersmith, Royal Brompton, St Mary’s, Chelsea and Westminster) and Oxford.  He undertook postgraduate training at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY.  He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, the Royal College of Physicians and of Balliol College, Oxford

Prof Choudhury was appointed Consultant Cardiologist (Hon.) at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford in 2005

Research Interests

Prof Choudhury leads a translational research programme in the fields of vascular imaging / risk assessment and in the management of atherosclerosis (the process underlying heart attack and angina).

Chief Investigator in the International Phase 2 clinical trial of the monoclonal antibody canakinumab (J Am Coll Cardiol, 2016).

Presentations and Public Engagement

Prof Choudhury is committed to extending the pubic understanding of cardiovascular disease.

He serves on the Health Expert Panel for The Spectator magazine and has frequent public speaking engagements  (Latitude Festival; Also Festival; Wellcome Trust Secrets and Lies Hub; Ashmolean Museum etc.)

Prof Choudhury regularly lectures at the key international meetings in the field of Cardiology: American Heart Association and European Society of Cardiology and has been invited to present his research at Universities and medical centres internationally (Harvard; Stanford; MIT; NYU; Columbia, Toronto etc.)

National and International Roles

Prof Choudhury has been appointed / elected to numerous leadership roles.

He currently serves on the Editorial Board of The Journal of the American College of Cardiology (as Section Editor, Clinical Cardiology)

He is Past President of the Royal Society of Medicine Section on Lipids; Metabolism and Vascular Risk.
