Data from TAVI trials-better than surgical aortic valve replacement?

Is a less invasive approach to aortic valve replacement close at hand?

At a recent conference (ACC -March 2014) the COREVALVE transcatheter aortic valve TAVI) was tested against conventional surgery (SAVR) in high risk patients. The results suggest that TAVI is as good as if not better than surgery, and should be considered as a treatment choice. In addition, the risk of stroke, thought to be higher with TAVI previously, appears to be equivalent out to 12 months.
