Embolic protection devices (EPDs) do not protect against stroke with TAVI or surgical AVR

Dr Malik says:

At the recent cardiology meeting ACC 2017, several trials have shown that putting filters, deflectors or anything else to Catch debris does not reduce clinical stroke or even brain scan “spots”. Delirium  rates were lower numerically, but were not a primary end point and I worry that this is a chance finding. The devices are probably not risk free to put in, add expense, and need more evidence before I would use it clinically.
