Dr Malik has been on the TV this time commenting on Fabrice Muamba who collapsed with cardiac arrest midway through the Spurs Bolton game on Sunday afternoon.
We have been screening footballers at LCC for many years and we are well aware that no test or even series of screening tests will pick up every pathology. From the press it appears Fabrice was screened up to 4 times. At current the FA insist that all professional players are screened at least once and usually this is completed when professional terms are signed between the age of 16-18. We await with anticipation to see if this affects the FA’s stance on footballer cardiac screening in any way.
