Dr Malik is due to speak at to British Geriatric Society Conference in a few weeks. His talk is called “Acute Coronary Syndrome or troponinitis? A rational approach to management”.
Troponin is a sensitive measure of damage to heart muscle.
Marathon runners can raise their troponin levels, so it will come a no surprise that an elevated troponin does NOT equal a “heart attack”. Hence, we see the need for expertise in assessment of the whole patient, not just a blood test!
