How many heart angioplasties (PCI) does your doctor do?

This presentation at an American Conference reiterates that a low volume of cases for the operator or for the hospital relates to worse outcome. UK national recommendations are for >75 coronary angioplasties (PCI) per year to maintain the skill base. These recent  studies say:

<50 bad

50-75 getting better

>100 better still

It is not all about volume, and the use of modern technology to assist the basic balloon and stent add benefit too, but the UK rules appear to be validated in the US data. Choose your operator!

Dr Malik does >100 PCI per year, and has an active research interest in complex and high risk patients.
