Dr Malik and Professor Mayet have just published a paper highlighting the benefits of Primary angioplasty (acute heart attack treatment with a balloon and stent) for the treatment of acute heart attacks. This study shows that the trial data is correct and that the large registries of patients can have bias in them, clouding the effect. Primary angioplasty saves more lives than clot busting drugs. Dr Malik runs the Heart Attack Centre at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College, London.
