What is the best exercise?

How do you keep fit?

1. 10,000 steps a day
2. 10 minutes, three times a day
3. High intensity exercise
4. High intensity at home- squats, star jumps and on-the-spot jogging at home for 5 minutes.
It seems fitness will improve with all these, but the best may be 3 and 4 if you are fitter, and 2 if you are less fit. 10,000 steps a day is the least good.

What about strength?

You lose muscle at 1% per year after age 35, unless you keep active! Keeping muscle mass up can prevent diabetes and, of course, means you have more in reserve when you are 75 years old.
1. 2 sessions a week for 6 weeks using light weights on one arm and leg – till you can’t do more
2. Same session with heavy weights in the other arm and leg until you can’t do more
Interestingly both 1 and 2 have similar results – 25% increase in strength on both sides! The heavier weights of course take less time to do.
Amazing results really.
