Dr Malik presents at PICS (Pediatric and Adult Interventional Cardiac Symposium) 2014 on LAA closure

Dr Malik was invited to present a case at PICS, in Chicago, USA recently. Left atrial appendage closure (LAA closure) is a way to reduce stroke when you have Atrial Fibrillation (AF). He presented the use of a novel device used to block the LAA, and so reduce the risk of clots forming in the heart. Other treatments to do this include Warfarin, and the novel oral anti-coagulants (NOACs).

The session Dr Malik presented in also looked at a summary of the recent data on renal denervation therapy for hypertension treatment. This treatment is still under trial, and is reserved for those with severe resistant hypertension.
