Ezetimibe

Ezetimibe (Brand name: Ezetrol) is typically prescribed as an add-on treatment to statins when LDL cholesterol levels are not adequately reduced. It may also be recommended if you are unable to tolerate statins or if statin therapy alone is ineffective. Ezetimibe is available by prescription only and comes in tablet form.

It can also be combined with other medications:

  • With simvastatin, a type of statin, it is marketed under the brand name Inegy.
  • With bempedoic acid, it is known as Nustendi.

How does Ezetimibe Work?

Ezetimibe helps to lower cholesterol by reducing the amount absorbed from your diet. It generally lowers cholesterol levels within two weeks.
